Crowdfunding and the prospects for growth in the future
I think that the crowdfunding industry is in its early infancy. However, it has the potential to be a mainstream player within finance.
Most importantly it is demonstrating how scalable and transparent online platforms can play a significant role in general funding across the entire industry: from personal loans to business loans, to equity investments, to getting an idea off the ground.
Crowdfunding enables the end consumer, investor and entrepreneurs to engage in a more scalable, transparent way with the value and rewards being shared fairly between them rather than accruing to the intermediaries.
It enables financial literacy and inclusion and could represent a significant chunk of the money flow in the future.
There is a long way to go and I think, I hope, we will move away from crowdfunding being an alternative investment option to becoming a mainstream choice which is always considered on its merit alongside more traditional forms of funding.
